Now if you are not familiar with Knoll, then I will give you a quick overview and explain how they are modern nowKnoll is a design firm from the mid century and they produce office and home furniture, adapting to today yet keeping with the same inspirations from the mid century (and in my opinion created some of the most modern furniture).  Ok so they are still a company today and are way overpriced but they created a modern image for themselves that, quite frankly, is still very modern and very cool (they blow ikea away- I hope I get paid for this promo… LOL). Florence Knoll (wife of the owner) commissioned some of the greatest architects and designers from the 50’s for their designs, from Eero Saarinen’s Tulip Chair to Mies Van der Rohe’s “Barcelona” Chair and if you ever get a chance to see these designs in person, you will see what I mean (gotta have one, the knockoffs never look as good). Now as far as getting close to seeing something at the gallery from Knoll (no, not the Barcelona Chair), we have a very rare set of Knoll International Collector cards on display now, which are actual playing cards (these, of course, have never been played).  The game is “Schwarzer Peter” and each card has on them some of most recognizable designed furniture, such as Eero Saarinen’s Tulip chair, Mies Van Der Rohe’s Tugendhat chair, Florence Knoll’s sofa and chair and Richard Schulz’ desk, to name a few. Originally published in 1960’s and to celebrate Knoll’s sixtieth birthday, Knoll International, London reproduced them in their original format.(from box).  And these collectors cards are, in my opinion, pretty modern and a great conversation piece at any party.

So if you’re interested in whats Modern Now, feel free to stop by (I’m usually there 24 to whenever) or visit our Online shop. Many Thanks from What’s Modern Now by Cristina.
