Happy Halloween! Come See Picasso & André Villers collaborative work at Modern Now.
The image of Picasso dressed as Popeye, taken by André Villers, gives a rare glimpse of the iconic artist as a playful guy with a penchant for giant pipes and fake beards.
Villers met Picasso in 1953 and spent almost ten years observing and photographing his process. He told The Age: “[Picasso] understood I wasn’t after his personality or trying to depict something deep … he said, ‘If you want to get inside me, then it’s best you stay outside.”’
